Navigating the National Disability Insurance Scheme can feel confusing, especially at the beginning. This page explains the basics in plain language and shows how Sunnyside can walk beside you.
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is Australia’s innovative way to support people with a significant and permanent disability, their families and carers. It provides funding for support and services tailored to individual goals and aspirations.
Generally available to Australian citizens or permanent residents between 7 and 65 years old with a significant and permanent disability that affects their ability to participate in community life.
You’ll need to submit an Access Request Form and provide evidence of your disability (medical reports, assessments). The NDIS will then conduct an assessment interview.
You can choose:
(1) Agency managed (NDIS manages your plan)
(2) Plan managed (private manager handles invoicing and funds)
(3) Self-managed (you manage funds directly). A support coordinator can help you decide.
